EMORY JOHNS CREEK HOSPITAL:  ONE YEAR CHECK-UP

JOHNS CREEK, GA – Emory Johns Creek Hospital opened in February of 2007 to an excited and welcoming community.  From its conception, the hospital was designed to bring the prestige and clinical excellence of Emory, a world class healthcare organization, to the community of Johns Creek.  As expected, the hospital’s first year brought with it a number of changes, challenges and milestone celebrations.

“We are very proud to report that December, January and February were all record months for us at Emory Johns Creek,” said John Quinlivan, President and Chief Executive Officer, who came on board in September of 2007.  “Our patient volumes continue to grow as more and more people choose EJCH as their preferred hospital,” he added.

“Early on, we experienced what I have called irrational exuberance,” explained Quinlivan.  “We opened the doors staffed for full capacity, and while that was optimistic, it wasn’t realistic.”  The hospital made some staffing cuts in late 2007, all in management and non-clinical areas.  “We were overstaffed in non-clinical positions for the volume we were experiencing,” said Quinlivan.

Growth over the course of the year has been strong and steady, and “that’s the best kind of growth,” according to Quinlivan.   The medical staff has continued to grow as more and more doctors choose to become credentialed.  New services and capabilities are being evaluated and added regularly, to meet the needs of the growing community.

Emory Johns Creek Hospital has been engaged with the community for the past three years, even before its opening.  “We are committed to the community hospital concept, which means we’ll be a community partner,” said Quinlivan.

The staff at Emory Johns Creek is energized by the significant increase in volume over the past three months.  They have been tirelessly committed to the vision of becoming the healthcare provider of choice for patients and physicians.  At Emory Johns Creek, the vision and mission statements are dynamic and living entities – the staff works very hard to keep them at the center of all they do.  A quick, random, unscientific poll of workers in hallways reveals that they know the mission and value statements by heart.

“It’s been quite a year,” said Quinlivan.   Emory Johns Creek Hospital celebrated its first birthday and “all eyes are forward as we start off our second year with renewed energy and purpose.  That’s the way all birthdays should be, don’t you think?”
